School Yard Five-a-Side Pitch Cage
Wire mesh cage, overhead netting and a swing gate set into the mesh, enclosing a school pitch seen from the terrace floor of the building.
The photograph looks down onto the pitch from an upper floor of the school building; the cage separates the playing area from the surrounding apartment blocks and from pedestrians passing along the terrace. The aperture of the cage was chosen noticeably smaller than the diameter of the ball, since otherwise every attempt to free a stuck ball would tire the wire.
Access to the pitch is through a single swing gate set into the cage mesh, carrying a simple hinge mechanism suited to daily use. The section of netting hanging at the corner is part of the overhead closure that stops the ball leaving over the top of the cage.
